Brand copy: writing copy for brands, including your own

by Angela on July 9, 2007

Branding isn’t just for big companies like Microsoft and McDonald’s. All companies try to differentiate both themselves and their products via branding. This applies to your copywriting services business too: you need to create a brand for yourself, as well as writing branding copy for others.

Branding copy – what is it?

Copywriters are often asked to write copy which will help build a brand, or to revitalize a brand. This material can include:

* Unique Selling Propositions (USPs)

* Taglines and slogans

* Product descriptions

* Company profiles

Once a brand identity has been created, then all the copy you write must conform to that brand. For example, if a cheese company’s brand is centered on the cheese being completely organic, because this differentiates the cheese, then that “organic” message needs to be reinforced in all the copy that you and other copywriters write for the brand.

You get can great practice at branding by creating a brand identity for your copywriting business.
